What is Thai Yoga Massage?
Thai Massage is an ancient healing system that has been practiced for more than 1,000 years. It was originally practiced by Buddhist monks in wats (Thai temples), who combined their knowledge of Ayurveda, Yoga and Buddhism with Thai healing techniques. This combination came to be known as Nuad Bo' Rarn which translates as “ancient healing touch”.
What are the benefits of Thai Yoga Massage?
The great benefit of Thai yoga massage derives from its
effects on muscle flexibility. When muscles are tense,
they become shorter, even when you do not intend to
contract them. This can derive from overuse, underuse
or emotional tension. Short, tense musculature results
in restricted movement, stiffness, and aches and pains.
Thai Yoga Massage stretches and relaxes tense
muscles. Recipients experience feelings of relaxation,
peace of mind, happiness, flexibility and youthfulness.
What does Thai Yoga Massage involve?
Thai massage consists primarily of a variety of
stretching movements and pressure placed on energy
lines and points. It has been described as passive or
"lazy man's" yoga, due to the series of therapeutic
stretches involved in a treatment. It also includes
reflexology, acupressure, joint mobilization, and
meditation.
A traditional Thai massage treatment lasts 2 - 2 1/2 hours. However, the practice has been adapted in modern times to accommodate shorter treatments, though the longer sessions are still recommended to address the entire body. Thai massage is based on a holistic approach to health, acknowledging the interconnectedness of the entire body.
To allow for ease of movement, both the practitioner and receiver wear loose, comfortable clothes. All of the work is done on a comfortable heated futon mat on the floor. Come enjoy one of the best massage/yoga experiences in the East Bay.
