Private Yoga Sessions Can Help

Get one-on-one attention in developing your yoga practice in the privacy of your own home or at The Opener Studio in the Oakland Hills.

Receive expert hands-on adjustments from Domonick, a trained Massage Therapist and Certified Yoga Instructor.

Learn how yoga can relieve stress in your daily life. Domonick holds a PhD in Psychology and is a trained mindfulness meditation teacher. In your sessions, you will learn to cultivate a new way of being in your life, one that incorporates more ease and acceptance and less self-criticism, judgment and frustration.

Learn to use yoga to work with your health issues: chronic pain, headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, depression, anxiety, carpal tunnel, repetitive stress syndrome and weight management, among others.

Yoga is a great form of exercise, but it is also much more. Private sessions provide a way for you to tap into the richness of your practice, to maximize the benefits you get from your time on the mat.

Private sessions are $85 for 90-minutes. Email Domonick or call (510-219-1851) to schedule your first session.

Yoga Hikes

Never heard of a yoga hike? Neither had I. But, my daily walks amidst the redwoods of the East Bay inspired me to develop this class. During the 90-minute class, you will get to walk the paths, learn special breathing techniques to promote heatlh, practice yoga postures as we stop at various sites along the way, receive a big dose of Nature as your practice. Classes are upbeat, fun and highly addictive. This is a Nature-lover's dream yoga class. Click here for more details.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a softer, slower style of yoga than is practiced in most yoga studios. In Yin practice, poses are held for longer periods of time in order to allow connective tissues (tendons and ligaments) to stretch, in addition to the muscles. Yin practice helps your body and mind release tension and ushers you into a place of deep relaxation. It provides excellent practice in learning to slow down for those who feel constantly on the go. Yin practice is suitable for all levels of students, and is an excellent complement to more vigorous forms of exercise like running, biking, swimming and tennis.

Thai Yoga

Thai Yoga is a passive form of yoga, in which the practitioner moves your body through a series of yoga-like stretches. It helps you feel yourself in the pose without the muscular effort you would typically apply to get yourself there. Click this link for a full description of Thai Yoga.

In private and small group sessions, you will benefit from hands-on adjustments to improve your alignment and balance, as well as from instructions on how to use your practice to connect your mind and body.

Increase your flexibility, stamina, strength and levels of energy.  Learn to relax and reduce stress in your life. Have fun!

Airplane Yoga

Download this guided yoga practice for your iPod or other mp3 player and take yoga on your next flight. Arrive feeling rejuvinated, instead of grumpy and aching. The practice includes a seated practice and a standing practice, as well as tips on how to sit in an airplane seat to maintain healthy alignment.

$20 via Paypal, or send a check to 12 Shetland Ct., Oakland CA 94605. Your Paypal payment will initiate an auto-response with a link to download the file. Your mailed check will prompt me to send you a CD via snail mail.

"Halfway into my cross-country flight, I reviewed all the reasons why I hate to fly: security lines, delays, no leg room, seat belts and arm rests that the person next to me had commandeered - all of this translating into tension in my shoulders and an ache in my lower back. Then, I remembered Domonick's airplane yoga MP3 that I had downloaded onto my Nano before the flight.

I plugged the buds in my ears and turned it on. Soon the tensions and aches in my body dissipated as I followed his instructions, and I felt more calm as I listened to the soothing sound of his voice. Now when I am 10,000 feet above Kansas and ready to jump out, I know what to do. I highly recommend Domonick's airplane yoga MP3. He can't solve the hassles of flying, but he can help you cope with them with equanimity." Laura McManis

Why Private Yoga Instruction?

Every body is unique.

The downside to group class is that some postures may be inappropriate for you, increasing the risk of injury. With private instruction, your practice is tailored to your ability.

Further, when you encountering blocks or problems in group class, you do not have time to explore the block in order to start to work through it.  Private instruction allows such time, in addition to access to individualized advice on how to address the block.

My private instruction incorporates Thai Yoga Massage, which aids the body in opening and releasing into the postures.

Private sessions can be done in your workplace, home or at my home studio in Oakland.
